95th Annual World Convention

Annual World Online Convention of the International Propeller Club of USA, with Greek distinctions and the announcement of the Propeller Club Piraeus as International Propeller Club of the Year.

The 95th Annual World Convention of the International Propeller Club was held online from 12 to 14 October 2021.
The theme of this year’s Convention & Leadership Conference was “Open for Business in 2022 – What will it look like?”
Representatives of Propeller Clubs from all over the world, including many members of the Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus, participated in the conference, whilst President Costis Frangoulis was among the conference speakers and took part in the opening discussion on “Leadership in the Trenches”.

During the three-day Convention, many interesting sessions were held on topics such as; cybersecurity, the maritime workforce, building strong leadership skills, and the difficulties of major ports due to the pandemic. Members from all over the world were given the opportunity to meet and discuss ideas through professional development workshops and online networking opportunities. Keynote speakers at the conference included the 26th US Coast Guard Commander, Admiral Karl Schultz.
A significant accolade was awarded to the Propeller Club Piraeus, with its announcement as the International Propeller Club of the Year out of 72 ports worldwide, of which 42 are from the United States and 30 from the rest of the world. The club had previously received this award in 2003.

“This distinguished award is a great recognition of all the accomplishments of the Propeller Club, and the excellent work we have been doing for the last two years in Greece,” said Costis Frangoulis, president of the Propeller Club Piraeus. “At the Propeller Club Piraeus we constantly set the bar higher and we work as a team, focused and with an open perspective so that our Club serves and expands its goals in the best way possible.”

During the General Assembly and Elections, which took place on 14 October, Costis Frangoulis was elected as one of the Vice Presidents of the International Board of Governors of the International Propeller Club. With this important election, Mr. Frangoulis is also appointed as Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Convention which will take place in Athens in September 2022.

“I feel great joy and honor to take on this new role,” said Costis Frangoulis. “Every day I give my best for the objectives of the Propeller Club Piraeus and I will continue to do the same for the International Propeller Club. The organization of the International Convention on September 20 – 22, 2022 in Greece is a great new challenge that I will be happy to serve with all my strength and always with our capable and active Board of Governors as allies.”
At the same time, Governor Michalis Dalacouras was elected Regional Vice President of Southern Europe and Africa. “It is a great honor to take on this position. Greece’s leadership role is a given. In the regions of Southern Europe and Africa there is a lot of room for action and development that we must take advantage of,” said Mr. Dalacouras after his election.

The Greek distinctions did not stop here. Mr. Dimitris Fafalios, was named Propeller Club Member of the Year.

After congratulating Mr. Dalacouras, Mr. Frangoulis referred to Mr. Konstantinos Rokkos, who completed a successful four years in the same position, thanked him for his work, contribution and excellent cooperation, while he passed his congratulations to Mr. Fafalios, stating that he is really happy as in addition to being a distinguished international maritime personality, he is also a member and Ex-Vice President of the Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus and his nomination was proposed by the current Propeller Board of Governors.

George Xiradakis, Emeritus President of the Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus was appointed as ex-officio member of the Board, for a two-year term, after the nomination of the outgoing President of the Club, Mr. Niels Aalund and the Executive Committee.

During the conference, after a successful yet difficult term due to the pandemic, Niels Aalund handed over his presidency.
