New Year Pita Cutting Ceremony 2017

Scholarship Checks presented to Greek students

During a glamorous ceremony the Board of Governors and the members of the International Propeller Club of the United State, International Port of Piraeus, cut their ‘pitta’. The event took place Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Grande Bretagne Hotel.

The 2nd Vice President of our Club, Christos Kokkinis and the Deputy Minister of Merchant Marine, Aegean and Islands Policy Mr. Panos  Kammenos extended greetings and warm wishes for the New Year, Mr. Kokkinis explained that the Propeller Club is a nonprofit organization and one of its main objectives is to provide scholarships to worth Greek students.

He thanked all our members for their contribution and support.

He then cut the ‘Pitta’ along with Mr. Kammenos, Mr. Woodward Price, Economic Counselor of the American Embassy and members of the Board. Right after, Mrs.Debbie Foros-Tsirozidis, General Secretary of the Club invited Mr. Kammenosto present scholarship checks to Mr. Alexios Economopoulos, graduate of the Academy of Merchant Marine of Aspropyrgos and to Elias Pantelaros, student of the Shipping Department of the Aegean University located in the island of Chios.

Also Mr. Kokkinis presented a scholarship check to Nikolaos Kazakeas student of the American Community Schools, Mr. Apostolos Doukas Regional Vice President for Southern Europe and Africa delivered a check to Ioannis Ladas, student of the American College of Greece and Mr. Woodward Price to the representative of the American Farm School of Thessaloniki Mrs. Joan Ryding.

The event continued with the presentation of monetary awards to the winners of the countrywide essay contest which is announced every year on the occasion of the Day of Greek Merchant Marine through the Greek Ministry of Education.

The awards were presented by Mr. Markos Foros International Second Vice President of the International Propeller of the United States to:1st winner Konstantinos Mantzivis, student of High School of Epitalio, monetary award of 1500 Euros in memory of ANTONIS CHANDRIS,2ND winner (1000 Euros) to student Maria Tsiami of the 3rd High School of Thermi-Eastern Thessaloniki and to the 3rd winner(500 Euros)to student Vassiliki Vasilopoulou of the 2nd High School of Chios.

Mr. Stefanos Gialamas, Director of the ACS won the commemorative for the 2009.

Finally the choir of the American Community Schools and the dancing group of the American College of Greece contributed to our entertainment. The event closed with a buffet reception.

Except the officials mentioned above, present were former presidents of the Propeller Club, Mr. Savas J. Kalafatides, Mr. George Besi, Mr.Argiris Skondras and the members of the Board of Governors, Mr. Dimitris Zorbalas, Mr. Stefanos Costopoulos , Mr. George Dikeos and Dr. John S. Bailey former President of the American College of Greece and numerous members of our Club.
