2nd Online Members’ Meeting 2020

On April 29, 2020, the Propeller Club held its second online Members’ Meeting featuring Dr. George Pateras, President of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping. The session started with Niels Aalund, President of the Governing Board of the International Propeller Club providing a short introductory address to the more than 120 Members who called in. Dr. Pateras spoke about the problems facing Greek Shipping in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges of the day after; the importance of the continuation and cohesion of the supply chain, and Greece’s important role in its sustainment and robustness; the challenges Greek shipping companies face regarding crew changes and repatriation; the continuing importance of convincing young people to choose a maritime career both at sea and ashore; how the tanker market has benefited from the crude oil price war; the positive impact of reduced land based emissions on the environment and the impact of COVID-19 on the sea tourism industry.

Upon completion of the Q&A, our President, Costis J. Frangoulis, who was moderating the meeting, together with our Secretary General, Danae Bezantakou, initiated a dialogue with members in order to stimulate greater engagement. In the end, he thanked the members for their great participation and unwavering commitment and support.
