AMVER Awards Ceremony 2008

This year’s AMVER Awards Dinner took place on the 23rd of October at the Intercontinental Hotel. The highly anticipated event was once again organized by the International Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Piraeus in cooperation with the American Embassy and the United States Coast Guard.

826 awards were awarded to 120 Greek shipping companies during the evening, on behalf of their vessels which participate in the renowned AMVER rescue program.

For the second consecutive year, Greece received the greatest number of awards of the night. It is also worth mentioning that this year the AMVER rescue program celebrates 50 years of search and rescue missions around the world.

Prior to the AMVER award presentation, the President of the International Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Piraeus, Nikolaos Tsavliris, presented distinctive honorary awards to Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A., Arcadia Shipmanagement Co. Ltd, Marmaras Navigation Ltd, Omega Navigation Enterprises Inc, and OSG SHIP MANΑGEMENT (GR) Ltd, for their remarkable rescue efforts, as their crew and vessels combined saved 58 lives during rescue missions this year.
